Holon. the periphery of the center

The Over Memory Archives is the outcome of our (namely: external artists) efforts to document and catalog the city. We set to catalog the irrelevant, “marginal,” as it were, aspects of the city (cross-documentation), in an attempt to construct other, different, poetic representation and memory, believing that what we conceive as irrelevant might unveil an additional facet of the city and thus complement the relevant which is always relative.
The artistic act was an ambivalent act of encounter and estrangement: day in, day out, for about a week, city inhabitants were exposed to the documentation of, inter alia, locks, vegetation, sky, zebra crossings, cars passing by, walking rhythm, urban air-conditioning sounds, street names, graffitis.

Over Memory Archives II is the result of the documentation of an area defined arbitrarialy as the Israeli Periphery of the Digital Art (result from the definition of the art center in 16 Yirmiahu , Holon, as the Israeli Center for Digital art)
The Media Archives, located in the geographical center of the digital art center, tries to revert in a symbolic and poetic way the relations and hierarchies between center and periphery.
The net version of the archives, is connected also to search engines which bring also it’s results to the chosen category.
We hope that in the future, the existence of the internet site in the web will influence the web search engine, in a way that the items of the over memory archives will be shown as relevant results. Through the searchs about Holon, about israeli dogs or about the taxes, the neighbour's dog of Yirmiahu street, or the complaints of Holon residents abou the high expenses will have a central place in the net without center.

In the archives video, photo and sound items catalogued by category, date and time of documentation, street and description. The documentation was made with digital familiar equipment. All the items were catalogued and compressed but have no special treatment.
The visitor is invited to download material, to rework it and send us it back to catalogue it.
